Newt Group started in 2021 as a home for side projects and tools. Development became a full-time focus in 2024, and the collection has grown to include everyday utilities, games, and web projects. Many began with something we wanted to use ourselves; others came from an idea we wanted to try.
Our previous homepage could point you toward a download, but it said little about the projects behind it. The redesign keeps the familiar newt and blue palette, with clearer introductions to the work and a place to share what we’re building.

A clearer way to explore
The site brings together three parts of our work:
- Everyday utilities: Tools like Darken for screen dimming, LanMenuBar for finding local network devices, and ChatReceipts for searching message archives. The app collection has details, screenshots, and download links.
- Games: Board games, puzzles, and playable experiments under Newt Games, including Whoops!!, Think Big, and Air Ludo. These give us room to play with personality, animation, and different ways to bring people around a screen.
- Web projects: From Merciful.ai for thinking and writing with AI to smaller tools like Leaf.tips and Emoji.pet. Each has an introduction here and its own site to explore.
Small tools can stay small
A tool can do one job well and stay useful. Many of our utilities are free, with no account or subscription needed. Tools such as Darken and ChatReceipts work locally and do not collect personal information. Each project’s privacy information explains the details.
Paid games, subscription-based web services, and optional contributions help sustain the work. Smaller projects also give us a place to try ideas and technologies that find their way into larger ones. That mix leaves room for a simple utility to stay simple.
What to expect here
Updates is where we’ll share releases, development notes, and news from across Newt Group. Newt Games and Merciful still have their own blogs for more detailed project writing. Follow this site’s updates through the Atom feed.
If something we made has made your day a little easier, optional support is appreciated. Feedback helps, too: let us know what works, what’s confusing, or what you’d like to see next.
